  • 1.Why are plates/Thalis not tin coated ? Tin coating helps in avoiding any kind of toxic reaction of sour foods. Dry foods like rice & roti can be easily eaten in non-coated thalis also. However , in case you are looking to use it for something like rice and rasam we suggest you prefer kansa.
  • 2.Why are katoris/glasses silver on the inside - Silver is the tin coating which was traditionally called Kalai and is done to keep it from reacting with saur things like curd, buttermilk etc.
  • 1. Thatheras had stopped making these utensils because they thought who would buy these uneven thalis against the perfectly machine made thalis, but well the beauty of handcrafted imperfections go beyond words. Some of the thalis and plates are better than what machines can do, and they are heavier.

Please let me know if the metal is brass or Kansas( gun metal) as brass utensils react with sour foods and add to toxicity whereas kansa does not react and widely recommended for use.

    Cleaning Hacks

It can be difficult to see the ageing of metal but that is the sign of purity!
This product can be washed normally like other utensils. A day in an entire week can be kept for special cleaning incase needed. Pitambari powder, which is easily available in the market, can be applied to the products and rinsed off with water to give them a shiny look. Feel free to use household sour elements like a mixture of tamarind+salt or a mixture of wheat+vinegar/lime+salt, if pitambari is not available.

    Disclaimer

Imperfections are the hallmark and beauty of handcrafted products. Minor black marks and scratches are part of the process of making brass, copper and kansa products. We do not accept returns for such minor marks and hope you embrace the beauty and accept them in their raw form.
